Books that should be required reading for all...
Back in February of 2021, I learned about Ben Montgomery from Tommy Tomlinson’s podcast, SouthBound. Montgomery’s personal story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. He is a journalist, a father, and the author of a number of titles including Grandma Gatewood’s Walk, The Man Who Walked Backward, and The Leper Spy. Montgomery’s latest book (2021) is A Shot in the Moonlight: How a Freed Slave and a Confederate Soldier Fought for Justice in the Jim Crow South. I picked up this first edition (First Printing) at Goldberry Books in Concord, NC.
